So I've been building computers for years, but this one's the first that I'm wasting money on mods. I must be bored or something ;)

If I get UV reactive cables for the drives, can I reasonably expect to get good illumination on them from one UV cold cathode (or LED - which is better at this point)? It's in a TT Armor so I should have enough room to install a big one if needed. the reason I'd rather stick with 1 is that I have a 3 switch bus and I already have plans for a couple other lights. I could go with a 4 switch if necessary but I'd like to put the switches in the power switch bay to keep things neat, which of course means sticking with a 3.5" bus.
 
Most Cathode inverters will power a DUAL 12" cathode set.

Therefore, you can run 2 12" bulbs off of a single port from the light-bus.


2 12" cathodes would be more than enough, and a single cathode would still make things glow fairly nicely too.
 
Excellent. I didn't realize that about the dual - i thought 2 bulbs required 2 inverters. This opens up a few doors for my lighting scheme.

2 12" tubes is good ..... 4 12" is better :D



UV LEDs are good for lighting up small areas, but they will not have the same overall
bright coverage as CCFL tubes.

P. S. - in case you did not know many CCFL kits come with inferior plastic inverters which
have been know to overheat, even catch fire.

So I would humbly suggest you look at these kits with sealed all metal inverters. Have installed
a few sets myself & like them.

Those cases are pretty close to the look I'm going for - maybe even a bit more subtle on the actual UV light. In an ideal world it'd be a true black light where ONLY the reactive stuff would show up, but I know that's not gonna happen.

In other news, what's the scoop on those new flat cathodes? Looks like one would fit nicely up front under the drive bay and light a smaller area - - - that true, or should I go with LED's for small-area lighting?

Thanks for all the help all of you - I have the look I'm going for in mind but never having worked with case lighting before, without your help I'm sure I wouldn't achieve it.

Hehe, not gonna happen. UV light that you can't see is in a dangerous wavelength. The sunburn and cancer wavelength ;)

Flat cathodes? Got a link?
