Had the nVidia UT pack for a while now... but when I installed 280 i thought "ooo i have PhysX hardware, i better try the nVidia PhysX UT Mod"
Wonder of topic... as for Mirror's Edge it wen fine until the last level, servers... major lag, ~10fps

Anyway... after completion of the Mirror's Edge i thought i would give a shot to the nVidia PhysX UT Mod... right... Lighthouse brought the 280 to it's knees, 6-8 FPS, the Tornado map was around 10-15 FPS

Conclusion, PhysX on a single GPU my ass!

(I ordered PCI-e PPU, should be delivered in few days [or maybe today?], I will post my results when i get it)

As for other people, if you have UT3 pls download this and see how it runs on your system :D post your reults!

are you getting the agegia one? or just a pcie 9xxx nvidia card.

I read somewhere that you can use say a 9800GT as a physx drop in, perhaps it has a driver setting.

...gerrr

Got the PPU today, it's official by Ageia, 128MB 1x PCI-e.
Keep in mind my settings are all highest, with Vsync which caps my FPS at 60.
All maps play 60FPS (Vsync)

1. Heatray.
Normal map plays at cosntant 60FPS well cuz of the vSync, the PhysX is 20-15FPS.

2. Tornado.
Start out with 55-40FPS, tornado shows up fps dip to around 35. after a minute where a tornado goes trough a map at least twice FPS dips to 15 and after another min, all the way to 6-7.

3. Lighthouse.
Start out with 45. As soon as first wall is broken it dips to 15, more than two walls 8, half a level 5FPS.

Hmm... this mod is not designed properly or something. Not even a PPU can play these levels at the decent frame rate. Why? Or the problem is on my end... not sure

Ah, much better :) after installing older 8.09.04 PhysX drivers... apparently in the newer/current version they discontinued the PPU cards... idiots.
Here are my results:

HeatRay

LightHouse

Tornado

All settings on max 1680x1050 with Vsync, no aa.
With 50 bots in each test :p

You have to install the older software first, then upgrade to the newer software. The newer software still supports the PPU, but it does not include the driver.

Hmm... i will sure do that, maybe will see improvements in the performance? :)

................and why do i need this?

You have to install the older software first, then upgrade to the newer software. The newer software still supports the PPU, but it does not include the driver.

The newer version of the software gave a nice 4-6 FPS boost, but these new ones are very unstable for me, UT3 keeps crashing shortly after the game/round starts... I need a fresh install

it might give you better perf. For what you paid for the agegia card, if that worked, it should perform better.

odd, running just my 8800 GTX for render+Physx I was playable with all settings max and 40 bots. Things were great, and only got better when I added my 9600 GSO in, not sure why urs sucked so much out the door.

Meh... i blame the drivers... need the fresh install. There is just too many variables. 2+ patches on UT3... Old drivers for PPU i guess, and then the old/new PhysX software reinstall, not to mention i had to reinstall GPU drivers like 5 times because it wasn't downclocking... Vista support and x64 support.

I'm sure it will perform a lot better when fresh install of the system will be done :) just need to get a good copy of Windows 7.

Something is not working right... my bet it is the software.

Hmm, odd, I'm getting better performance than you, and I'm running graphics and PhysX on a GTX260. No dedicated PPU at all.

Throwing money at a driver problem = not smart.

Well i wanted to have a dedicated PPU for a long time, and it's not "throwing money" for me... if i understand you correctly. But i believe it has to do with the incompatibility with older drivers/newer sPhysX software and Vista x64.

Not to mention the UT3 PhysX mod was developed once and forgot about it by nVidia and/or Ageia, no support from Epic either.

I picked up a 9600GT for physx. The ageia cards are not even capable of half the processing a 9600 is.

You might wanna do some reading up, before posting again.

So would I...

Already done the reading and research. Can't remember the site, google is your friend.

I was going to go with a BFG / Ageia card but after seeing the results, the 9600GT was the way to go... cheaper and faster.

Run a FluidMark and see what score you get from 9600GT. Post your results.

Here is while using my OC'd GTX 280 for PhysX:

..and with my 9600 GT:

I'd like to see results from a Ageia PhysX card now.

Yeah, I tried running UT3 with GPU PhysX enabled on my GTX 280 and it seemed to run fine, even with several bots. I don't know why the OP had such horrible slowdown, but I'll keep investigating further.

I will give you the same answer that I give to people that post 3Dmarks scores...find me a real game:
http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1376657

Or games, don't post a fudmark that only test a limited amount of physcis...

Well Mirror's Edge ;) Obviously in game using the 9600 GT for PhysX is faster than a single GTX 280 for rendering and PhysX. Fluidmark is just testing PhysX so of course the GTX 280 is faster. I'd just like to see what an actual Ageia card gets in Fluidmark... cause I made the comment that a 9600GT smokes an old Ageia card, which in all the benchmarks I've see it has. And it should the 9600GT is alot more powerful than a PhysX card.

Then download Cryostais and run the bench...there is your answer...

I gave up on My Ageia card. Once the drivers came out for the 8800GTX with SLI and PhysX, Both Tornado and the other map play very smoothly for me. Espically since the 2.0 update + Titan pack came out. Seems to have worked out all the kinks. I have both SLI and PhysX enabled. Spans both cards rather nicely. I am able to push around 45fps on both maps. Sometimes dips into the 20-25fps range when everything is going on.

One side note: I have not seen the PhysX maps on any server over the last few days since the major update came out. I was thinking that these would be somewhat populated since the update and we finally have some players on all the maps and levels.

From what I have seen a PPU can keep up in some games with a GPU (dedicated or shared), while in others it gets mauled. I don't believe it's hard to see which one has a future.

You're doing it wrong. :p Even my 8800GT did better than that. You get bad framerates like that when the mod and/or driver is not installed/updated correctly. I had the same problem with my first attempt.
