'ello. Anyone else experiencing problems after they've applied 1.2? I was fine on 1.1 - could play for many hours straight, but after installing 1.2 I bombed (frozen screen) after approx 30 mins. Am currently uninstalling & will try the patch on a fresh install.

UPDATE - After uninstalling (left the UT games folders in 'My Docs' in place, but removed the UT3 folder from 'My Progs' after I ran the uninstall from CP). Installed UT3. Installed patch 1.2. Tested for 1hr. All seems ok, but will need to test more

Right - another crash. 1.2 is officially f*****. Back to 1.1 for me.

EDIT: OK maybe I'm just being a girl & should try some other GPU drivers. Am currently running latest WHQL for XP32.

what's new? every version of UT3 since the demo has been crashing for me. i hold out hope that each patch or catalyst driver revision willl fix it, but alas. the game just crashes, randomly. definitely not very useful.

What's new is that I've never (until 1.2) had UT3 crash on me! I've tried some beta drivers for my GPU, just got some strange haze effect on Avalanche. I'm back with 1.1 now - playing just fine.

I had patch 2 beta 1, beta 2, and beta 4... they all crashed way too much. The official 1.2 is no better =/

between that and the blatant aimbots on EVERY server, I think I am going to give UT3 a rest for a while.

Damn, I've not come across any aimbots, but then I play Warfare & vCTF. I'm guessing that the botters hang out in DM??

I play UT3 all the time. The game is officially screwed since 1.2 (even more that is) Since the patch the game has been randomly crashing. Cheaters are running rampant, I played against 3 aimbots yesterday. The guy racked up 10 monster kills in a row on deimos with the turret jumping magnetically from target to target, next round it was enforcers auto locking onto everyone and killing them almost instantly. He made players in the top 10 quit not to mention everyone else on the server because there is nothing we can do :( there are no admins and no anti cheat. Not to mention he was obvious, not trying to hide it, couldn't move, no shield belt, only enforcer kills. Just imagine how many "good" players are cheating while hiding it well. All you really need to do is know how to move and look like you know how to play and no one will notice your botting. Honestly too bad, even though the UT3 community is small it was a really good one

the spectating options + FRAPS utility allow you to record 30 second clips of suspected cheaters which can be submitted to abuse@epicgames.com. What good does this do ? probably none. The community is small enough, and while patch 1.2 has enabled CD key banning, it remains to be seen whether or not Epic will take the reigns or leave this to the individual server admins. I keep a list of players that I have spectated blatantly using artificial aiming (I play mostly vCTF and warfare) so if they are in a game that I join, I will recommend to the other players there that they vacate the server and leave the hacks to play with themselves.

If you witness players firing longbows without using the alt fire (or, using the alt fire AFTER launching an avril), they are probably hacking. If they tend to use jump boots to boost over their opponents, then spin and aim down at them (without missing) they are most likely hacking (this behavior is referred to as "spin locking" or "down syndrome"). The Helios framework has a radar that not only aims through walls but also allows players to know when power ups will spawn, so these blatant cheats can run the entire map without having to stop and wait for redeemers, jump boots, etc, you will see this when spectating as well.

I wouldn t say abandon all hope, but they re out there.

yesterday I had planned to squeeze in a few games before work, but every populated vCTF server had known aimbotters on them so I just went to work early.

Very sad to hear that cheating in UT3 is rife. I console myself thus: people who cheat online most probably are compensating ;)

people complained about the graphics in UT3 but I think these unreal engine error messages look pretty damn slick...

Wow you actually get an error message? Half of the time it just hardlocks my system and forces a reboot :D

bold statement
got any proof they were aimbotting as opose to you sucking?

I would consider telling someone you don t know (and never played against) that they suck at UT3 a bold statement. I acknowledge that there are players better than myself, however, if you were less concerned with trolling and actually read what I posted above, you would see that I outlined the signs of blatant cheating, as well as where to submit demos to for review by Epic. I have cross checked the names of UT3 players vs the member lists of the 2 most popular aimbot forums... I am not the type to cry cheat everytime someone stops a flag grab, I am talking about definitive proof of cheats observed, recorded, and documented. believe me, I have done my research.
