Does anyone have trouble with UT3 and ATI video cards?

or any other "Physx" games because it hasn't bien easy for me
getting unreal to not crash my box to restart. kind of makes me
mad

if anyone knows a fix that would be sweet.

No issues here....... have you tried different settings in the game? are you sure it is graphics related?

does your system have enough juice from the PSU?

Hmm its a cheap system... Biostar K8M800 X2 4400 2 gig DDR2

Radeon X1650 Pro AGP 450 Watt PSU I just built it last weak and i really like it.

no over-clocking going on but 5 or 10 min into game play game will hang then
crash my system hard. I'm about to give up i built this rig for this game cause i'm
a big fan of the game. darn it

much faster than what i had before though nforce2, 2 Ghz athlon xp that i built in
2005 lol. i needed a new system anyway but thanks a lot for the reply i really
appreciate it. thanks:)

I have the same card, and it's *not* that you have an ATI card.

The issue is more that you have that *particular* ATI card, as the X1K series simply does not have enough graphical horsepower for UT3 (for AGP, I'd recommend the HD3850 instead).

If you want to stick with AGP, then I would recommend you swap out the X1650 for an HD3850 (I'm considering a similar swap if I do what I planned on and going with an ASRock 4CoreDualSATA/Q6600-based crossgrade from my current setup at the bottom of this post).

Unfortunately, there are simply few AGP cards, from anybody, that have the firepower to take on UT3 (in fact, other than the HD3850, the only other ATI card, in AGP, that would even merit optional consideration, is the only-on-eBay-these-days HD2600XT, and that only in tthe 512 MB configuration).

Well in a way thats good to know I thought it was the card not talking to that Agia Physx

......nonsense.

I have had my eye on the HD 3850 for a while, kind of short on money but i just saw a
2600xt on tiger direct for $89.00

I've bien watching these forums for about 4 years and they are the only ones that have good advice. thanks a bunch,really. it helps when you are just guessing what the problem could be like i was to get good feed-back thanks. :)

Are you using a X-Fi soundcard? If so I know a fix.

Thanks TECH but im just using the onboard AC97 audio im still getting the crashes
i found some .ini fixes on the Midway customer support site they are like this

a) Go to "My Documents\My Games" and delete the Unreal Tournament 3 folder. Start the game to see if the problem persists.
b) If the problem continues go to "My Documents\My Games\Unreal Tournament 3\UTGame\Config" and open the UTEngine.ini file.
1) Search for UseMinimalNVIDIADriverShaderOptimization and change False to True
2) Search for bInitializeShadersOnDemand and change False to True
3) Search for DisableATITextureFilterOptimizationChecks and change True to False
4) Search for PumpWindowMessagesWhenRenderThreadStalled and change False to True
5) Search for OnlyStreamInTextures and change False to True

They should look like this:

UseMinimalNVIDIADriverShaderOptimization=True
bInitializeShadersOnDemand=True
DisableATITextureFilterOptimizationChecks=False
PumpWindowMessagesWhenRenderThreadStalled=True
OnlyStreamInTextures=True

c) Save and close the file.
d) Start the game.

so strange im gonna keep trying things to see if i can get it to run for more than 5 10 minuets
there has to be some problem i even turned down the eye candy quite a bit and still same thing
there has to be a way to make it work thanks

That card is and your system is pretty outdated, try gettin a 9600GT you can find one for like 50 bucks nowadays.

I also found something that said to do a clean boot in msconfig and then uncheck all the services runing in the background and i tryed that and then the game played for at least an hour before the same crash wich was i guess better

thats nice and all but i dont want to have to do a clean boot every time i want to play ut3 it just kind of sucks because the hardware i have is supposed to meet the recomended specs for ut3 im frusterated

i sure would love annother vid card but the one i have was supposed to work i dont know
