well heres wat i think....TONS of fun, when u can get in a server that doesnt lag like all hell...it runs nice and looks nice, but every server i was in featured slideshow networking...chop, chop, chop, chop....hopefully within a few days the servers will get quicker and more efficient

wat do u think?
 
I found a bit torrent download (from the UT site) and I am amazingly getting 50k/sec (on a cable line) and uploading 20k a sec. So maybe that is the way to go?
 
I used my fileshack mercuary account. I downloaded at about 250k/sec through the whole file. I got an invalid win32 application only twice (thank god). I've found that the offical east servers by atari are the best ones to play on. Plus, they do stats etc. I usually ping about 12-30 on the server =)
 
forgot to add that im really annoyed that the models included in the demo suck...2 jamaican guys and 2 jamaican girls...not at all threatening looking
 
I found it really cool looking ! prolly will buy the dvd
Only turn off- seemed hard to hit anything..I can jump on q3,ut,ut20[=03,halo , and find it easy to kill peeps.
Is it me or does it seem like everything is smaller also.

EB has it for $40 and you can choose free (albeit slow) shipping. I saw it in the hot deals on anandtech and ordered it. It is the 2 DVD edition and it supposedly comes with a Logitech headset. I bought a decent one in anticipation of this game so I will be using that one.
 
i'm not that blown away by it, the new gameplay types are cool, and their will be a ton more maps in the full version. I think i'll wait a month or two before i buy it, or whenever its cheap.

agreeing with orginal poster,
THe demo lags like fucking hell on my computer ONLINE. i dont know if its my schools isp getting in the way( i can download at 1meg a sec) or if trhe servers are just fucked up( most servers i join are below 100 ping, so i dont get it! :().

ONSALAUT AND ASSUALT ARE FREAKING GREAT. UT 2003 sucks dick compared to this demo.
 
i just did some fps testing and they are the same in a equivalent server online and offline...roughly 100 with action onscreen...however offline its so fast, and online its so slow...i really want to play with people instead of bots but this is just too choppy
 
I'm glad to hear its awesome with bots :). I'm on dial up so i dont play online anways. I only play multi on LAN.
 
I'd like to see more games offer a DVD version. This shit with having 4 CDs for XIII and swapping back and forth blows.

supposedly far cry will come on dvd, as the giant thread about its tells.
 
Onslaught is great. I am really looking forward to the full version.

Assault is cool to have back but with the demo level, it doesn't feel quite right. Perhaps the bots are too friggin fast for me, I dunno....
 
graphics wise i think ut2k3 looks better

maybe they are saving the higher rez textures for the full version.


Gameplay is awsome on everything ive done so far.

havent played regular deathmatch.

Im guessing it's the same as ut2k3 though.

I was looking for them to add a lil more to justify the cost, but i bet the full version will add plenty of stuffs, like tons of maps(not sure if thats a good thing though)
 
I only got to play for about 20 minutes...but seems pretty dang fun to me. Onslaught is awesome! Haven't tried assault yet.

in the readme they said the the full version will have twice as big textures, they made them smaller in the demo to save in file size.
 
Just got it installed. Seems fun. My graphics suck, so it looks the same as 2k3.

I love the new feratures of it though. Can't wait for the full versiuon.
 
Onslaught is the most fun I have had online with some buddies in a LONG time. Its the Tribes 2 that Tribes 2 could only hope to be.
 
I think this game is not that great. but I guess for the cult following it's the best thing since sliced bread. I've never really liked the UT series and so I guess that's why I don't know what all the hub-bub is about.

I played the demo. Game runs flawlessly. I didnt run the frame rate command but it felt really high compared to games like Halo and Far Cry.

Anyway, I didnt come here to knock the game, just to say I didn't appreciate it the way a lot of you seem to.

weird bug in assault mode, when you fall off the moving vehicles, your character just freezes when he hits the ground, instead of ragdolling and getting left behind.
 
i love it, but i agree with the graphics... 2k3 did look better... i love the vehicles tho and the new assault mode... i will definitely be buying this game!

2k3 looks better because you are comparing the full version of 2k3 with the demo of 2k4 (high lod levels removed to save space), at highest lod the texture res will be twice that of 2k3.
 
Its pretty good...

Way better than 2003, and it seems to follow along the lines of the original UT, which I really liked.

They brought back assault and decent "team play" games. I don't know about the idea of vehicles so much... It could unbalance pretty easy
 
onslaught will especially look ugly because its larger maps have reduced textures because its a huge outdoor arena...dm maps look a lil better but u cant max out because only smaller textures are with the demo

and im agreed with that other guy that its not some giant leap with unmatchable gameplay...its not really anything new, but it does the same old same old better than any one else...for everyone that loves fast deathmatches this is THE game

So after playing UT2004 for the last two hours I really don't think it is the next big thing. I just can't put my finger on it yet but I guess I just totally hooked on the gameplay of Battlefield. When you cap a point in BF there is just a total extra effort in capping a point. Maybe it is just to early in it but it doesn't seem like this is the way it is in UT2004.

Oh well maybe it is just the sound level.

i was a huge fan of UT but then UT2k3 felt to much like quake 3 so i never played it. This seems a little better maybe its just the big map and vehicles that make it seem better to me. Either way it's fun!

I totally agree..Sure UT2k4 is a nice quick fix.. but I always find myself returning to Battlefield one way or another.. it just has it all... one other thing that puzzles me though.. UT2k4 really doesnt run too well when there is more than 10 ppl in the game. I have a 9800 pro and I drop to 30 fps quite frequently.. anyone else experiance this?

Same here, it is a very rare phenomenon known as....A DEMO. Insert massive amounts of sarcasm with equal amounts of kidding.;)

that's what i was gonna say. of coures i have every single setting possible maxed out... but damnit i want my 60fps! ;)
