Using MSI Afterburner V2.2.4

Just wondering, I got a new 660TI PE OC and what's the deal with Afterburner --- just slide the sliders all the way to max ? I haven't found much on using Afterburner with newer cards.

Here is a pretty alright guide to overclocking with MSI Afterburner.

Basically, you DON'T want to just slide all of the sliders all the way to max. I'm not sure what the default Core Clock and Memory Clock are on your 66ti, but just try increasing the Core Clock by about 20MHz, then hit Apply. Do the same with the Memory Clock. Then run a game for about 30 minutes. If you don't see any glitches or freeze ups that didn't happen before you overclocked your card, you're safe to either keep the speed you've now achieved, or try to overclock further.

A good program to help you test your overclocks stability is FurMark. It stresses the crap out of your video card. I like to overclock while running FurMark instead of testing with a video game because I can test my overclock much quicker.

Make sure you turn the power target up on the settings page - just go ahead and max that one out. Heaven is a good quick check for stability - don't bother with Furmark, it is a totally unrealistic load and both AMD and Nvidia recommend against running it. If you have BF3, it seems to be a very demanding of overclocks, so if you can run that for a while you are probably okay.

I've always had good luck with the custom fan profile on AB.. Haven't used much of the OC features in awhile.

I wouldn't slide all the sliders to the max, and that's not related to afterburner, it's plain common sense. Other than the Power target, your going to want to go in increments for the memory and gpu core frequency until you find instability. Cranking everything to the max is a great way to damage your cards, regardless of whatever OC utility your using.

Increasing the voltage on these cards (their VCore) doesn't hinder the actual max volts from being increased i.e. 1.175, it only changes it's inital stock volts at which the card usually idles. I donno what's up with that.

I downloaded afterburner 2.2.4 for OCing 7970. Any one know to enable the unofficial unlocking of the program via editing the CFG file? My old edit did not seem to work at all. Any help would be appreciated it.

UnofficialOverclockingMode = 2

Then when you launch it, accept the ToS prompt.

I like to warm my card up using Kombustor, using the Wavy Plane test setting wire frame on (not the furry thing). Then let Unigine Heaven run for about an hour while surfing the net on my laptop. Then I go play a game :)
