I got excited having put both my vp930b and dell 2209wa in.

I expected I would be able to run both monitors each with their own desktop and native resolution. But it turns out the dell wont be able to run higher than the 1280x1024 native resolution of the vp930b and that I can only either clone one desktop to 2 screens or have 1 desktop shared between them both?

So how do others have what seems like seperate desktops on each and do things like run full screen apps on 1 desktop whilst view the desktop on the other, and is it possible to have different size monitors both at native resolution.

You use the "Extend my desktop to the second montior" option in display properties > Settings.

You only get one desktop using the video driver, it can be on one screen/the other or stretched across both.
Make sure you have the latest driver as the ones that come on the CD might not have full function.

For up to 4 desktops, there is a Power tool from Microsoft if you have XP.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/Downloads/powertoys/Xppowertoys.mspx
look for Virtual Desktop Manager
This doesnt allow different desktops on each screen though.

If you are willing to pay, there are tools to allow a desktop on each screen.
ie http://www.binaryfortress.com/displayfusion/
With DisplayFusion you can add a taskbar to every monitor that works and looks just like the Windows Taskbar
