using cardboard as lining to quiet case??

ANyone ever do that? Could it work? Not sure if it might raise the temps in teh case tho.. but im watercooled on my cpu, and heatsink/air cooling a overclocked 7900gt with a nv5 cooler.

I figure it woudl be cheap to grab some cardboard out of the garage and just cut pieces to fit easily.. maybe spray paint it black to look neater, and slap it in.

Cardboard doesn't have the density needed to absorb the sound. It WILL help, but such a small amount that it won't be noticeable.

i must add however, that one's rig better be quiet to begin with to notice the difference. If you have a noisy fan or noisy rig in general, noise dampening foam will not do anything for you. It is meant to be the "final" thing one do to silence their rig

All the sound dampining material in the world will do nothing to quiet down a bunch of noisy fans... and a niosy hdd can be silenced with rubber grommets.. small o-rings work great

The only noise makers are probably my water pump vibrating on the metal floor of my case and the fan thats on the radiator but that is it.. I wouldnt mind quieting it down.

putting your water pump on some foam will greatly dampen the vibration tranfered to the metal floor. as for fans, get some yate loons... quiet to a point and still push some air

go to your local craft store and buy a big sheet of fun foam for like 4 dollars

I've tried it and it does work. I popped off the front of my case and lined the back of the front panel with cardboard (including the drive bay covers). I painted a rather large sheet of cardboard with black sprey paint and cut it to size to fit the top, sides, and bottom of my case.

Looks great and it is quieter...although foam would probobly work better

mount your HDD in the 5.25" bay suspended by rubber bands, it made mine completely silent.

Styrofoam would work. I have a bunch of it at work, it’s thin, free and flexible.

You can use cardboard to block noise, but not dampen noise. Putting tape over your front air holes/vents will do a lot to block straight paths for noise from the fan to your ear. Lining the wall behind the case will also help. You can use egg carton foam, a blanket or a towel there.
