Hey guys,

I'm building my first new comp since I don't feel like getting shafted by Dell again. I have 2 SATA Hard drives that I want to hook to my mobo aswell as an ATA-133 Hard drive from my previous comp that I want to use aswell. How do I hook up all three HDs? One SATA HD I want to be my C: drive to install windows on, D: the 2nd SATA and E: the ATA. How would the jumpers go Master, Slave and Slave even though the ATA is going to be connected to the IDE?

Also the 2 SATA are OEM drives. I head people talking about formatting before installing windows. How do I do that? Does anyone have a link for instructions on how to format and set up OEM drives?
 
I have a very similar setup as you are describing. I have 1 SATA drive (c) as master, and then two IDE drives as d and e.

At first, I just plugged in 1 SATA drive, the one that was to be C:. This had to be done because if I left them all plugged in, the IDE master would be labelled c, 2nd as d, opticals as e and f, and finally the windows xp drive to be g, and this could not be changed via windows xp, as the drives were in use.

To answer you're question, you need to install the drivers (if needed, i did not need to) for you're sata drive, then the 2nd sata drive on sata port 2, and then i believe that the remaining ide drive can be either master or slave, but for convention use master.

If it is windows xp that you are installing, it gives the option to format. I usually do a full format when i buy a new drive.

Let me make sure I understand what you are saying. Connect 1 SATA HD that I want to be C drive, then install xp onto it. After installation connect the remaining HDs and Optical drives?
 
Near enough yes, although i got away with just disconnecting the two other hard drives to begin with. The optical drive letters can easily be changed because nothing runs from them, whereas hard drives are a problem.
