I recently purchased a 5770 video card and I was wondering if there is any reason not to use the HDMI port (compared to the DVI port) ?

My LCD is currently connected to my 5770 via DVI cable and another box through a standard vga cable. However, if there is nothing to be lost in the process, I would like to use the HDMI port for my 5770 and DVI for my second machine.

Thanks in advance for any input.
 
I currently use HDMI on my 5850 connected to a 32" LCD and it looks great. I would venture to guess that nothing to be lost. HDMI and DVI is basically the same digital signal which is why you can use a DVI to HDMI cable without issue.
 
Unless you're sending audio through S/PDIF, won't you get more audio channels with HDMI instead?

Some monitors are picky about HDMI input though, try fiddling with your output settings till it works.
 
There will be no disadvantage to using HDMI over DVI. They're both digital connections and are logically the same as far as video signal is concerned. Plus if your monitor has speakers and supports sound through HDMI, then that's a plus too.

So go ahead and switch them, you don't notice a difference between DVI and HDMI (because there is none).
