Yes it can, but you didn't state what those vm's will do.

If they are XP vm's running with 512MB ram, then sure, but I still suggest a 2nd hard drive rather than 1 large one for VMs.

If you have a dual core processor in there you can assign the core to the vm in Workstation 6.
 
Depends on what the main os server is running and what the vms are running. What services are you going to run?
 
host OS - server 2k3 standard edition, going to be using it for AD mainly and then start to screw around with other options.

I want to run windows home server and ubuntu on it as well.
 
If the host is just running ad and dns then yea 2 gigs would prob work fine. Why run windows home server on top of normal server though? Just to try to learn it?
