Using a Keyboard/Mouse from a HTPC?

Hey everyone, I recently picked up a 42" HDTV after some research. My plan is to replace both my aging PC monitor and TV and use the TV for both HT & PC gaming with occasional productivity. So far I confirmed that the screen looks good and the text is readable after some configuration. What I didn't think about beforehand was a proper place for my keyboard/mouse. Using the coffee table puts both at an odd angle and resting them on the lap obviously doesn't work.

I'm wondering how everyone else handles using a keyboard & mouse from a couch for PC gaming and general use.

Logitech Wireless Touch Keyboard K400 for me.
I tend to just rest it on my lap, I don't really game with it though.

In earlier times, I did have an HTPC/gaming rig on a tv and I had what I called 'the entertainment plank' for that which was a fairly wide plank of wood with a mouse mat glued to one end; I would have the wireless keyboard on the left and the wireless mouse on the right and lay the whole thing on my lap for use.

It worked, but it wasn't elegant! :) I used to store 'the entertainment plank' under the tv stand. That was a Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 7000 combo.

I have a Microsoft Natural wireless keyboard/mouse under my coffee table. I rarely use it now adays as any maintenance I remote in... but at work I have one of these:

Again, i rarely use it as I remote in but if i need to have a keyboard/mouse for the HTPC, id use another one of these over the microsoft one. Having a regular mouse sucks and is a pain. I'd move the RF keyboard home but at work my HTPC is in another room (server room) so its easier, my office is next to server room so the RF just makes it.

I use one of these and I love it. I've had it for, I think, about 5 years and have only put three or four sets of batteries through it. Its been dropped, banged, and played with by children and still works as good as new. Nothing coming loose on it, no visible wear and tear. They're advertising a 4th generation model, I think I've still got the first generation and its a fine bit of hardware. I always highly recommend these.

That's very similar to the iogear but only an inch more narrow...but the price is a lot more.
