using a dynamic IP with an FTP server ?

what software or service can i use to allow some sort of static address to be assigned to my ever changing dynamic ip address ? i am running an ftp server from a windows xp machine. thanks!
 
www.dyndns.org I use it to connect to my home computer.. Just have to update the host records once a month even if it doesnt change or they will close out your account.
 
side note:

ftp'ing uses a specified port number, and one-below that number. default is port 21 (and 20). if you are having problems connecting to the ftp server, you may need to change the ports used. many highspeed internet providers block that and port 25 (smtp mail) on their end-user accounts, and charge a premium for those ports to be opened in "business" level accounts. if you use a router, you'll probably have to setup port forwarding in the router to direct the ftp requests to your xp box.

this is just a f.y.i. should you run into any problems.

btw, how often does your ip address change, and who is your isp ??

I use this and I haven't updated anything on their web site in over a year. Works great.

Then you have one of those accounts that are static and don't have to be updated.
 
If you have control over your own domain name, fire up a nameserver or use everydns.net for one (Or both for redundancy!)
 
another vote for www.no-ip.com
they have a little program that runs as a windows service that updates your internet ip if it changes (even if you're behind a firewall)
