Using 2 IDE drives for backup with SATA RAID bootup

Over a year ago I had a setup that had an 80gig Seagate IDE drive. Since then, I went with an Abit motherboard using 2 36gig Raptors in RAID 0. I kept the 80 gigger for backup. Well, the 80 gigs is used up, so I just purchased a 250 gig drive.

What I would like to do is have the 2 Raptors in RAID 0 for bootup, and keep the 80 and 250 gig drives for backup. When I tried connecting the 80 and 250 together (both using the cable select jumper) the computer would either not see the drives, or would go through the Windows bootup screen, then go black and the busy light would just remain on.

I have the IDE Master and Slave options enabled in the BIOS. I can use 1 of the drives as a backup with the RAID, but when I connect the 2nd one it bombs.

Any ideas?

You have an IDE cable that isn't compatible with Cable Select. Inexpensive ATA/133 IDE cables, and even some expensive ones, don't support Cable Select. Therefore, you must manually jumper one of the IDE drives to Master (or Master with Slave Present), and the other IDE drive to Slave.
