Uses for a zips

Not sure if this is the right forum, so please move if I offend someone. Anywho, I came into a couple of old Iomega zip drives, one 250Mb USB drive and one ATAPI internal 250Mb drive. I also have about 20 250Mb zip disks. Any good uses for these? I know these are obsolete but any ideas on how these might be useful?
 
I mean zip drives still work pretty well for keeping backups of smaller files(read not a huge collection of music, porn, etc) and for transfering stuff between a few pcs if they all have the drives.
 
I use mine for backing up sound clips and text files...they're too small for anything else, really.
 
Heh, when I was in HS we used Zip discs to take big pagemaker files to the publisher for our newspaper... so I ended up with a drive in my home computer so I could work on stuff there, and over time I started using them for other things, so now, two systems later, I have a pile of zip discs in a box somewhere and no means to access them. PM me if you would be interested in selling me that external drive.

hell, when I was in HS we thought 5-1/4" 360K floppies were bananas. Then the 1.2MB 5-1/4" floppies hit the street and it was the most awesome thing ever. Imagine if we had 100MB zips back then...
 
Man I remember I had the zip100 SCSI version...

I think with the cheap DVD blanks and DVD+RW drives, it made Zip disks kind of useless.

Didn't even take that, cheap CD-Rs and CD-R drives killed the zip.

Oh man that brings back memories. I remember setting up my 16-bit ISA Adaptec card to work with it too. Sadly, I was a victom of the dreaded "Click of Death" but the class action suit came way too late to help me. Shame too, I had warez versions of Doom and Leisure Suit Larry 1 and 2 on the disk for it.
 
Actually I just thought of a good use for a 250. Get your hands on some old DOS disks, set the zip to be bootable and load DOS/Win 3.11 on it for old skool games.




Ok...the fact that DOS games came to mind makes me feel old... :(

Yeah, if you have them on more than one comp, they are good for a "sneaker net". Faster and simpler than burning CDs to transfer files. :)

Cool idea but the old dos games wouldn't work with the modern sound cards and stuff would they? Best bet for that would be virtual pc or vmware. Good idea though. Hehe I remember have special boot disk for some old dos games back in the 486 days. Backroad racers comes to mind. I had a special boot disk so I could play it. That game was the shit back in the day. Ahh early cd-rom games......
 
The best was when they had that Superdrive that died after about 2 days. Not to mention it was a huge bitch to format the disks..

I say forget the zip, you can get one DVD-RW that would destroy what you have now. Sell it to Nullo, someone who really needs it... :)
 
I still use my zip drive. I have friends on very slow dial up connections. I am on cable. When they have a large down load they need. I download for them and drop it on a zip and give it to them. Between 3 of us we have around 25ea 100 meg disks.

My zip drive is a USB model. If I am going out to work on someones computer. I take it with me besides my cd's. I have ran into problems with someones computer having CD-Rom problems and the USB zip was the only thing I could use for diagonstic programs.

There are still some uses for this old tech equipment.

I concur. Come on OP, pm me with an asking price ;) I guess I don't really _need_ it, but my curiosity for what is on those damn disks is getting the better of me...
