I have a system running MCE2005. I have a ton of media on this computer that I'd like to share with my roommates. I have it set up now as an administrator account, and I log onto it through a different computer to add or change files. I want my roommates to be able to watch the media, but not be able to change or delete anything. How do I go about setting this up? Do I just add another account and set up a password for them and change the permissions?

Thanks for the help.

Yes, add a local account you want them to use.

Then under windows explorer (windows key+E), go to tools, then folder options, view tab, scroll all the way down and uncheck "use simple file sharing".

After that browse to the folder you want to modify permissions on, right click, select properties. Go to the security tab and add the account and give them "read" permissions only.

If everything is grayed out on the security tab, then you have to go to advanced and uncheck "inherit", when it prompts you make sure you click "copy".

GL!
