We've been having a lot of problems with user's losing all of their settings. For some reason, windows is rebuilding the profiles from the default, and naming them USER.DOMAIN, or USER.WINDOWS. I can copy the old profile into the new, and everything will be back to normal. This wouldn't be much of a problem, if it were a few isolated incidents. I was hoping someone here would know what could be causing this so I could fix the problem without affecting to many more users.
I've seen the problem on both Windows 2k, and XP. All my searches point to the profiles being corrupt, but we are having at least two a day (out of about 500 workstations) go bad, and the old profile seems to work when copied to the new location. I don't see anything in the eventlog. Anyone have any ideas?
EDIT : we have a 2000 active directory environment if that helps
