Used SSD or no?

What's the consensus on buying SSD's used?

Given that some parts are more buy-used'able than others, would it be prudent and/or safe to buy a used SSD, say the Samsung 840 EVO/Pro, or not?

Given my OCD and the worry of drive jarring causing unforeseen problems later down the line, I don't think I'd feel comfortable buying a used hard drive (platter). But given that SSD's don't have moving parts, and seem, for the most part, that if they turn on and work, then they're working and in the clear -- I wonder if it's a safe bet to buy them used.

On the other hand, if I can hop onto a $139 Samsung 840 EVO 250GB, like the deal a couple days ago, I can't imagine I'd find a used one that would even beat that price.

Anyway, just generally curious what others do/feel.

With as cheap as prices have been.... and how much people on eBay and here at [H] usually want for used parts, buying new just makes more sense. PLus you get a warranty for your OCD.

As far as wear goes, if the SSD life shows 98-100% then you'd be fine as far as reliability is concerned.

To re-iterate what jmilcher has said, with prices on new SSDs being what they are I'd only buy used if it was a decent savings or I had some particular need for a discontinued drive. I have bought used SSDs before and wasn't worried reliability or shipping damage.

You can get a 240GB V300 (kingston) for $130 new....why buy used?

or go for intel 530, which has 5 yr warranty, the longest for consumer SSD.

I've had great experiences on this forum buying used vertex 2's and OCZ solid 3's. The important thing is seller transparency and confirming the life of SSD is <95%
