Used MSI OC Genie, now the throttle is stuck

On my new MSI board I enabled their OC Genie, which put me at 4.0 for my 4670K - right about where I wanted it. Problem is, now the ratio never throttles down at idle, so it's always running at 100x40.

CPU-Z still has my multiplier listed as (8-40), it just never leaves x40, even when the cpu isn't doing anything.

Any thoughts as to why this is? Is it something I shouldn't leave as-is? Or is this just what I get for using a stupid auto OC?

sounds like the auto OC turned off the power saving options, you may be able to re-enable them in the bios but if the program doesn't write its changes out to bios then it probably won't work...

Also you can check the power settings on windows, on high performance even if C states are enabled the chip will run on max multiplier.. If you set to balance it will drop to the minimun when idle.. Check in bios under CPU energy management options, if C states (and C package) are enabled and intel speed step(EIST on some bios) are enabled..
