Hi guys,

I've got an ESATA PCI bracket - it's got an ESATA port on the outside, and a regular SATA connector on the inside, to add an ESATA port to a machine without one. It's designed to be used the following

MB internal SATA > bracket > ESATA cable > ESATA device

I'm wondering, can I use it in reverse?

If I've got, say, a DVD drive, and it's already got power from another source, could I make it into an external ESATA drive to use with my motherboard that's already got ESATA?

MB external ESATA > ESATA cable > bracket > SATA device

Don't see why not, but you can get a SATA-eSATA cable very cheap from ebay etc, so whether it's worth it having a bracket hanging off the back of your DVD drive is debatable TBH!

I agree with that. Keep in mind the maximum cable length for SATA devices, which is 1 meter.

It will work if you don't need to buy an eSATA-eSATA cable. Then you can order a SATA-eSATA cable from China with slow free shipping, it costs like 2$.
