USB tuner with DirectTV?

Anyone have any experience with usb tuners for Direct TV, or know if they even exist? Friend of mine was telling me about one he uses for cable but he can't find anything for Direct TV, let alone one that is USB. Also how would a revo1600 manage with HD recording through a tuner? I'm kicking myself for not paying for for the dualcore version but frankly all I needed was something to play 720p movies, but now I'm wanting to dabble in using it as a DVR instead of a torrent box.
 
there arent any directv ones available. You'd have to use something connected to the analog outputs of a directv box, and an IR blaster to change channels.

For a while there was a usb directv box in development - and even pictures of it at microsoft for testing, but it never got released and i think was canceled.

For recording hd, the machine speed doesnt matter much. The tuners are either taking the already encoded stream in the case of over the air hd / digital cable, or they have an encoder chip onboard that can compress in realtime(hauppauge hd pvr, or any old analog tuner with a mpeg2 encoder).

The hauppauge hd-pvr compressed to h264, so you may need a beefier machine to actually play that back. But for recording, the computer is just recording a X mbyte stream from the device to disk.
