Has anyone ever used one of those thing? the little USB thing that lets you add another monitor to say a laptop or something?

thinking about getting one for work so I can get a third display going.

I use one everyday at work. Its an EVGA model, forget which one, its USB to DVI, does like 1600x something. I use it at 1280x1024 as I only have 19" monitors at work. I haven't had any issues with it that I can think of, but again its only at work, not using it to watch movies, or play games on or anything.

If you get one now, buy one based on the DisplayLink DL-195 chip. (Like the Diamond BVU195.) DisplayLink is basically the only OEM that makes USB to VGA/DVI chips. S3 just announced one but it's far off. I use one to drive a 1920x1200 monitor as part of a 3-monitor setup and it looks great. The only issue is with a lot of motion - it uses compression. But if you're viewing a small video it's just fine. In all, it's perfect for a second monitor for texts and spreadsheets.

If your computer at work has permissions, you might not be able to install it.

You could wait for the USB 3.0 version, which will have multiple outputs and less compression necessary.

I am an admin on the machine so usage shouldn't be an issue and i am looking to do lower res like 1280x800 or whatever that widescreen res. This is for work so lots of motion isn't a problem, it is not for video or anything.
