USB SC vs USB headset?

[Big10Fan]

friend of mines laptop sound-card mic jack apparently broke, he came to me for advice on each alternative and I don't have much of a clue. What would be more worthwhile? I'd assume the headset would be more convenient although he uses his laptop as a desktop, whats the better quality?

USB Headset - $79.99

personally i'd go with the headset

but its gonna come down to personal preference
would he rather wear a headset constantly or just hook up speakers to it ...

quality wise ... i'd say they are on par with each other

Go with the headset. Dealing with an external soundcard isn't worth the annoyance and the USB headset will likely give him fewer problems. Unless he wants to drive a sound system, the card is more than he needs.
