Been thinking about the reliability of USB Sata docks, adapters, or enclosures (for SSD and HDD).
Seems like they damage or destroy drives far more frequently than they should, from experience and what Ive heard.

Im wondering why, and what makes the most difference: whether inadequate amperage, heat, connector quality, or other electronics...?

I've had adapters fail. I've not had any drives fail because of the adapter. Power shouldn't be an issue. All of the adapters that I've used, attach to AC power to power the drive.
