Hi.
I bought a NETGEAR Wireless USB 2.0 Wireless-G Adapter (WG111) and I have been having some strange problems with it.
Firstly let me say that my brother has been using it with his more-than-four-year-old system (P3 800mhz -- no USB 2.0) for a few months while I have been at school, and he has had no problems with it.
Now that I am home for spring break, I need to use it because my PCI slot in my shuttle is being used up by my sound card. I have a PCI wireless adapter from linksys that works fine in my shuttle. However, this USB adapter just doesnt seem to work well. When I initially plug it in, it picks up good signal strength and maintains a very good connection. Then, like 5 or 10 minutes after plugging it in, it just loses all connection. I would simply use the "repair" option (Windows XP SP2) to get the signal back, but it doesnt work, it freezes in the process of disabling the network adapter. Whats more is, when I have my Logitech MX310 USB mouse plugged into another port, it also freezes when the network adapter loses connection. I have been able to remedy this problem only somewhat by using a usb/ps2 adapter for my mouse. The whole thing leads me to believe that the problem is not a result of the NETGEAR network adapter, but something that is wrong with the USB part of my shuttle. I have checked my device manager and did "update drivers" on all the USB controllers or whatever, and they said that no better replacement was available.
FUrthermore, the model shuttle i have, ST61G4B, comes with the card reader built in. I could not get that to work for me at all after installing the drivers and everything, and yes, I did plug it in right.
So, has anyone else had this problem, and is it just a shuttle thing or does it happen normally, and is there a solution? I am out of ideas this far.
one more note: when i have my USB mouse and USB printer plugged in at school, there is no problems at all? maybe bandwidth related or something/
