ok i plug my usb printer in and it wont recognize it. i have another computer with it plug in and it comes up with the usb port in the printer menu. how come i cant find that on my new one.

First, some questions:

What operating system are you using?
What kind or printer?

I know this is going to sound stupid, but make sure the wires are properly connected....
If everything is properly connected, make sure the USB port you're using is actually working. Try plugging in a working USB device into, to see if it recognizes. Also, you could try plugging it in and restarting the computer.

Hrm, as for locating the printer, go into the control panel and look under system. There should be a tab or button for Device Manager. Look in there to see if the comp is having trouble initializing the device, or if it even knows it's plugged in at all. You could also try manually telling the system that it's there by using the add/remove hardware function. All of this, of course, is assuming you're using Windows. Sorry I couldn't offer much more, but I don't really know what your setup is like, so this is all I can really say. Good luck. :)

I use an optical mouse to check usb ports.
If it lights up you have power.
If the pointer moves its reading the data signals.

A part from that it as Sieravor says.
A bit more info will help.

Luck......... :D
