USB ports stopped working!

Okay I got a new computer a little while ago and was using it and everything was fine.I shut it down and unplugged it to add a slave harddrive in it to copy files from,and when I restarted it everything was still fine.Now here is where the problems started I shut it down and unplugged it to remove the slave harddrive that I had installed,and after restarting the computer none of my USB devices will work.I use windows XP pro and when I plug in the devices the computer recognizes them but says unkown USB device found.I have tried installing drivers for them and nothing works.my scanner is USB and it gets found right away but will not work either.
I reformatted thinking that would help but it did nothing at all.
On another computer I have when I plug in my devices (mouse,sony digital camera)it "sees" them right away and they work fine without having to install drivers.
Anybody have any ideas that will help me?
