USB ports dead?

I got a shuttle system yesterday...just installed the OS & everything.

plugged in the TV tuner's remote...nothing.

thinking that to be strange, I plugged in a mouse.

still nothing.

BIOS shows it as being enabled, however, when I boot I get no red lights.

any thoughts?

is it a usb mouse? if so try using another usb device to figure out if the socket is bad. if its a ps2 and its hosed make sure in the bios if it has a setting that disables or enables a ps2 mouse you have it enabled.

the easiest way to figure it out is to try another mouse, or try that mouse in a differant pc

I used an MX500.

the front ports, I'd get nothing.

the back ports, I'd get a flash of red light when I first plug it in, and nothing afterwards.

did you check to make sure the usb connectors are properly connected to the motherboard?

in the back of the system? the I/O? ummm no.

and even if they weren't, that shouldn't prevent the front, should it?

at any rate...if it's something thta major, it's going back.

The USB connectors on the front of the case will need to be connected to the motherboard headers. The ones on the back are soldered onto the board, and the ones in the front are not (they come supplied with the case).

You will need to look at the motherboard manual to see how to hook them up... some motherboards use weird stuff. :)

Good luck!

well, the shuttle has a proprietary plug...that is plugged in.

I need to test that firewire on it...the whole front might be messed up, I dunno

reset the CMOS several times. (3)

reformatted 5 times w/ 3 different versions of XP(OEM, OEM w/ SP1, & Corp)

reseated all plugs.

here's the count.

USB in front & back: don't work
Firewire in front & back: don't work
Audio in front & back: don't work
PS/2 in back: works
VGA in back: works.

I think I'll have to get this sent back.

fawk.

have you got any drivers from shuttle. that might fix it, its a long shot, but worth a try, other than that, its RMA time.

using the newest Realtek AC-650 drivers, newest intel INF drivers.

it could be grounding issues with the connectors... i know the sound inputs on the front i/o panel are sometimes improperly grounded leading to staticky interference... who knows, the USB might be screwed too

Are you sure your BIOS is okay? Which Shuttle do you have? (The SN45G Rev2's are notorious for having problems; which is why I'm glad I have a Rev1) Do you have any other problems with it? It boots fine, not just black screen without POSTing?

boots fine, had an OS on it and everything

no issues, no yellow exclamation point in Device Manager. I didnt' even know it had problems until Saturday night when I plugged in the remote to the AIW and it didn't work.

it's an SB61G2 that I'm having problems with.

hmm not sure, some people sudhian had the same problem here, didn't see any real resolution on the matter, though.

Looks like you might have to RMA
