USB On and Off. HELP.

About two days ago i bought a Zune Mp3 player.
Plugged it in and installed on my pc, then it asked to plug in the player and thats when the problems started. The usb port for some reason turns the power on and off, but just with that device. 'windows usb plugged in sound' *2 seconds* 'windows usb unplugged sound', and it just cycles like that forever.

Google search just brought me to a couple forums with the same issue with no replies.

Any help?

If its any encouragment, im going to be on a 8 hour flight come sunday, so having this fixed by then would be great.

I did manage to get it to work on a laptop, however, ive got no way to transfer the music from on pc to the laptop to the zune.

I experianced the same problem with a usb mouse a week or two ago. Switched mice, problem went away.

Using Windows XP Pro. SP 2 w/ all updates. Plugged into back of PC. Ive tried unplugging everything but the player, still the same issue.

Thanks,
Dan.

PROBLEM FIXED WITH CMOS RESET

You plugged the zune in before you installed the software?

Try uninstalling and reinstalling following directions

Ive uninstalled, and reinstalled, and followed all directions.
Ive also reformatted.
This has got to be something hardware related, im just not sure what.

Sounds like a problem with either the usb ports on your system or a usb hub driver issue. Since this problem has occured with other usb devices, I wouldn't consider this a problem with the zune, especially with the fact that it works fine with your laptop. Try looking for updated drivers from your motherboard manufacturer.

Also, by any chance, have you changed any of the services settings on your computer? The reason I ask is because I know that in the case of the ipod, Terminal Services is required to be running and would cause issues with the iPod not being detected by iTunes 7 if it is not running.

The odd thing is, is that the Zune software detects it, for the first couple second when i plug it in, the software pops up, its just that by the time it would load it, the zune disconnects again.

Updated MOBO drivers, problem persists.

I had a very similar experience one time with my camera and the front USB ports. It turned out to be the cable wasn't completely plugged into the case. You're using the USB ports built into the MB, though, so it can't be that. Very strange. Sounds like it might be an issue with your MB since it happened before with the mouse.

It might be the MOBO, but that wouldnt explain why everything else works perfectly:
[usb mouse, camera, printer, usb wireless adapter].

Argh, the frustration.

True, but you did say it had that problem with the mouse before, but you were able to fix it.

I experianced the same problem with a usb mouse a week or two ago. Switched mice, problem went away.

Yeah. Im really not sure where to take it from here. Im on the phone with the zune at the moment...and its REALLY not helping.
