I have an IR receiver and I want to hook it internally and directly to the motherboard.
My problem is firstly the usb cable is way too long and I want to cut it down, how exactly should I go about doing that? Ultra noob question... but we have to start somewhere right? =)
Secondly, I know to get the motherboard to hook directly to the IR receiver I would have to hook a usb cable thing with a female plug so I can plug in the receiver, but is there any other way? Thanks in advance!

Let me see if I understand you right: You have a USB IR receiver. You want to connect it to the USB header on your motherboard, and you want to leave the regular USB connector on the end of the receiver's cord. Is that right?

If so, you'll need to make up an adapter cable that has the 1x5 female connector on one end for the motherboard and a female USB connector at the other end. I don't believe something ilke that is readily available, so you'll have to make your own. Secondly, you'll need to shorten USB cable connected to the receiver. This one's easy: cut the cord about 3" from the USB plug, and cut out as much as you want to. Then splice the remains of the IR receiver's cable back on to the USB plug.

thank you so much, that is exactly what I thought I had to do.
But really thanks about the usb splicing, I was just iffy about that part.
