USB Hub nuked my peripherals?

I have a Belkin USB Hub that I use to keep my desk neat and organized. It usually holds my headset, the USB wireless adaptor for my keyboard (DiNovo Edge), and the plug for my external sound card. Today I plugged the hub in, I heard a series of beeps from the computer and the faint smell of smoke, and the hub shut down from an overload, according to the friendly error message I received. Presently, none of my peripherals are working, which is more of an annoyance than anything else, since the keyboard works through Bluetooth, and I can plug the speakers directly into the computer, but it's extremely concerning in that a single hub could have rendered everything attached to it useless. I've tried each peripheral on a couple other computers, and there isn't even a hint of recognition or power going through. I'd like some suggestions before I go spending money to replace everything that just shut down on me.

Any way to zero in on the smell of smoke? Burning electronics are surprisingly easy to track down :p Does the USB port on the computer that the hub was plugged into still work?

Well, I went over everything with a fine-tooth comb. The headset, a decent logitech pair, seems to have been the origin of the smoke...take a look at this:

So, the headset is toast. Customer service at logitech has referred me over to their sales department, so I have to give them a call about the Bluetooth attachment, and the external soundcard (which I'm really angry about), is still not recognizing anywhere, or receiving power. Good news is the computer shows no ill effects.

just taking a stab. Would the logitech headset be the root of the usb hub dying? It might be the headset drawing too much power (combining with other items) causing it to die. (as I said before I'm no expert I'm just taking a wild stab.)
