I have an Audigy 2 card that I would like to use in my rig. My headset is a Logitech USB headset. Did I screw myself by buying a USB headset? Seeing that there is no way to connect the headset directly to the sound card I assume I won't be able to utilize the card.

Does the USB headset sound decent to you?
I have an Audigy 2 and a Sennheiser USB headset and the Sennheiser sounds really good.
But since my Sennheisers can be unplugged from the USB attachment, I have the option of going straight to the sound card.
I just like the fact that I can plug my headset right into my keyboard.

The headset sounds great. I am concerned about gaming performance. Does the onboard sound & usb headset kill performance? I don't have speakers at the moment so switching back & forth is not currently an option.

an audigy2 is far better than your usb sound card. hardware acceleration in games and eq, supports up to eax4 as opposed to eax2. so in games the usb headset will affect performance.

How much performance? I don't notice any performance differences when I am playing games with either one.

Your soundcard is a whole piece of hardware dedicated to thinking about the information being fed to it and how it relates to what you hear. Games send it information based on where you are your location and whats going one elsewhere in the game. The soundcard will then think about it and send out the audio.

If someone is behind you the sound card can think about it and pretty acurately send out the audio for you to hear. (much more in depth but you get the idea)

The USB sound card does the same thing, however it cannot do it as well. You might not hear the difference of missing ambient sound or inacurate footstep placement or timing mixed in with connection lag etc. But its there. Same goes for the quality of the streams sent out.

Correct me if I am wrong I am tired and probably mistyped something :|
