well i dunno whats up, but i have the usb front headers all plugged into my mobo (abit ic7-g) and it used to work great, plug that sucker in and bam, but nowi plug it in and it says USB device not recognized

the case is a antec p160

i throw it into a onboard rear plug works fine, take my mouse, pda cradle, and media reader and they work fine in the front.

any ideaS?

i checked plug and its all in fine, i kinda ruled that out immediately cause i never touched the plug
 
is it every device or just one.

what is the device you are trying to hook up?

is the device USB 2.0 only?

Does windows have the correct drivers to use the device?
 
Has Windows loaded all the driers for the USB? And the BIOS has found them?
 
hmmm, its a hard drive, before it automatically found it as a mass storage device.

other devices work on the front headers such as my pda cradle, flash mem reader, mouse, and what not, but not my hard drive
 
oh yeah, if you have enabled USB 2.0 support in the bios without installing SP1, you will have problems.
 
See if it is listed in the Device manager and remove it.

USB is kinda funny how it loads devices. It "remembers" what port you plugged into and installs the drivers for that device to be used on that specific port. So, it is possible to have multiple driver instals for the same device depending on what USB port you plug it into on your computer.

Plug into the front ports and delete whatever devices show up for it in the hardware manager. Unplug then replug and let windows do a new hardware detect and install.


That may fix the problem.

Other than that, you may be running into a power problem when plugging that device into your front ports.
 
i tried that, also usually my hd works off of one usb port, but my hd also has another plug incase i need extra power, when i do that, still nothing
