I don't know if this is the right place to post this but...

does anyone know a device that will convert an USB port to a firewire port?
Say I have a laptop without and express card slot, and I want to use a camcorder and import video... any ideas??

I think you're out of luck. Do you have any expansion options on your laptop? Any desktops at your disposal?

Well, my laptop is the acer aspire One. Love it, but no firewire ports. I will be away from home and I need to be able to import a video from a firewire-only mini dv camcorder.

Fire wire ported Express cards are fairly common for about $50. There are also some fire-wire to USB external converters available which I don't have any first hand experience with.

Just Google it.

OP said he doesn't have an expresscard slot, and FW to USB won't work, he needs USB to FW (I don't know if the ones you found were bi-directional). Do you have a link to those converters?
