I am forced to connect my computer to my DSL modem via USB because the other computer in another room is using ethernet. my question is.. is USB slower than ethernet and will I get less internet performance using USB over ethernet? And.. if I bought a router could I then connect both via Ethernet?

yes USB is slower then ethernet. it will go at 11MBPS when Ethernet can go 100MBPS or even 1000MBPS
and yes if you get a routher, you can use the dsl at the same time with the other computer

USB is slower than ethernet.
You will not notice a performance difference between USB and Ethernet in this case. Your DSL will not max out the 12(?)Mbs of bandwidth on your usb bus.
So, it will not make a difference in your internet speed if you use USB or ethernet.

And, yes, if you bought a router you could connect both via ethernet. The only thing that would benifit is you are doing file sharing between the two computers.
