I was thinking about making an adapter between a external hard drive and an SD card slot in my camera, I was thinking mass storage of photos, but the largest SD card I could find was 2gb and that was expensive. Is it possibe to make an adapter or can I buy one?

I think the closest thing you're gonna find is called the x-drive or some such - the general principle is to have an external hard drive with additional hardware to read all the pictures off the camera or the card directly. You shoot a card-full of pictures, then upload them and delete from the card.

So, you don't think I can make an adapter? I think that and x-drive would work--but not exactly the way I want it to

I'd be awfully surprised if you could figure out a way to do this. SD, iirc, is a serial protocol, while IDE is parallel. That means it's non-trivial to convert between the two. I have seen adapters that let one put a SD card into a CF (which is IDE in smaller form factor, essentially) but not the other way around.
