USB bottleneck

Hi,

I have replaced my 5400rpm drive in my external hdd enclosure with my 7200rpm drive for recording audio/storing samples..

My question is, will USB be fast enough to transfer the data from the 7200rpm drive than from the 5400rpm drive or will it just bottleneck?..

USB will be the bottleneck, the maximum speed for USB 2.0 is around 60MB/s but usually average around 40-50MB/s. I'm pretty sure any 5200rpm drive can go faster than that.

You should try move onto USB 3.0 or eSata.
 
Wicked, thanks for confirming that man, I had a sneaking suspicion that was the case.

Bought an esata drive but having teething problems with the drive. Good to know I'm on the right track.

iv never seen usb 2.0 clear 25 MB\s do you have a link that saying diffent ?

and ya usb will choke the speed .usb 3.0 though should be able to deal with a single old school hdd with out too much speed loss
