I have a couple of them that I got for like $10 each at Fry's.

They stay at ~ 40 degrees Fahrenheit.

I was wondering if anyone's thought of removing the plastic base of it, lapping the surface and mounting it to a CPU.

But it's so cold that it creates a LOT of condensation on it. So that would screw things up wouldn't it :(

It would be awesome to get amazing cooling with a $10 usb device haha

If I can figure out a way for the condensation/moisture on it to not be an issue, I'll give it a try because I've been looking for a reason to upgrade my CPU and this could be it if I end up killing it haha

I was thinking about. My friend had one and popped off the top. You might need to add a more powerful fan on the fins, lap the really small base, and insulate the thing, but it might work. I doubt you could OC with it.

Read up on Peltier cooling, as that is what the beverage chillers use. Then, once you've read up enough, realize that each USB port provides up to 500 milli-amps at 5V, for a grand total of 2.5 watts per Peltier plate. That's all the cooling power these can provide, which means they can only cool appromixately a 1-watt CPU. :p (A rough estimate of a Peltier's capacity is 3:1, meaning 1W cooled to 3W utilized.)
