hi Guys

I just bought a Western Digital 1.5tb My Book and want to know can i hook it up to 2 PC's at the same time, one with usb and one with firewire.

I have read that this could cause the drive to fail so i want to ask before i try anything

thanks

No, you may cause damage to either PC, the USB/Firewire hard drive controller(s) or the drive.
Then again it might not cause any damage but it sure wont work how you want.

If you want simultaneous(ish) access, get a NAS enclosure for the drive.
Or mount the external drive as a network share on one PC and allow the other access.

You can only use one at a time. Why not just hook it up to 1st computer and then share the drive so the 2nd compuater can access the drive.

ok thanks guys

Can someone point me in the right direction on how to share drives, have no idea on how to do it;)

Assuming Windows, right-click the drive and pick Share from the menu. The rest should be obvious if you have basic reading comprehension. Then the drive will show in Network on any other Windows machine on your network.
