Hey all, i posted this in the data storage forum and got no hits, so trying my luck here.

I have a Passport Essential SE 1TB USB 3, hooked into my desktop (in sig) via a ASUS U3S6 3 card.

When coping a large amount of data, 5 gb iso, the file transfer starts at 100mb/sec then drops down to 20mb/secs. However it should be around 100mb/sec for the duration right?

Then I ran CrystalDiskMark.
Sq Read 95mb/sec
Sq Write 5.6 mb/sec
Wtf?

Any one have an idea what is going on?
The USB 3 card shows up in device manger as an NEC USB 3.0 so i think the drivers is good?
Also a something else, i am wondering about the U3S6 is in the middle of two nivida graphics cards... could the heat be doing something to it?

20MB/s doesn't look right. I get ~51MB/s with my 750GB WD My Passport Essential SE USB 3.0 drive. Granted I'm using a onboard controller as oppose to a add-on card. But it shouldn't matter that much.

What NEC driver do you currently have installed? The latest is 2.0.34.1.

You might want to check to see if you can update the firmware for your card as well, using this link.

hello, thanks for your reply.
I just did installed both of those drives and ran the benchmark again..
and got the exact same results
91mb read
*5mb* write...
I have a feeling it is the heat effect the chip now...
