USB 3.0 external enclosure optimized for SSD?

learned that the speed of transport is quite faster than HDD and bought a SSD not long ago.
I am looking for a USB 3.0 external enclosure optimized for SSD. It would be better if it is self powered through the USB 3.0 plug not separate power adapter like a lot of USB 3.0 enclosures.
 
I have only had one 2.5" harddrive that would not power up through the USB connection and that was a Seagate Momentus 750XL which is a 750GB 2.5" drive that also has 8GB of solid state built-in, so it has more circuitry then most drives. But I have never had a SSD that didn't power up from from USB alone.

Most people will look at speed as the number one factor for external enclosures. There are some other features that can be considered, though their importance may not really matter in the grand scheme of things when your in a situation of using USB. One of the nice features of SATA is NCQ (Native Command Queuing). NCQ was more of a performance enhancer for platter based drives, but also has use in SSD.

But you are probably not planning on doing high IO requests on a USB drive. At least most people wouldn't try to get into that situation on a regular basis. But you could look for USB-attached SCSI (UAS) compliance if you were really concerned about it.

There is also the question of TRIM working over USB. Which is likely no. But all modern SSD's have internal garbage collection which does the same thing as TRIM, albeit at a slower pace.

So to answer your question USB enclosures are not "optimized" for SSD, compared to something like eSATA enclosures. But in the scope of why you would be using a USB drive, anything other then raw transfer speed probably doesn't matter.
 
I think a lot of usb3 enclosures use an external power adapter because of compatibility for spindle drives. This enclosure, for example, states that for ssd, it is bus powered specifically: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...n-_-N82E16817362005&scpid=7&scid=scsho5465382

Almost guaranteed no trim though; I don't think those commands are passed through the USB interface. But I also don't think it will matter to the point of practicality though.
