Using a usb2 external enclosure for one of my sata drives. Is it possible to buy something cheap that would be like a usb to firewire adapter? If so, is it a good speed increase? Thanks.

no. the usb interface to the firewire device would defeat the purpose of the firewire device all together.

however, you can throw a firewire card in your desktop or laptop and run firewire to the enclosure if it supports it.

Ok,
how much would I expect in terms of speed increase using firewire against usb2?

Firewire tends to be faster because the controller itself offloads and directly manages much of the communication.

Honestly, unless you're planning on regularly transporting/moving/copying 10GB+ a week, you're probably not going to gain any real world 'benefit' from using the drive.

I probably will be moving v. large amounts of data, but if needs be I can just leave it copying overnight or w/e
