Probally already has been covered, but I couldn't find anyting on it.

But what the difference between a USB 1.1 cable and a USB 2.0 cable?

Is there a reason why you can't get 2.0 speeds with a 1.1 cable or is it just crap?

Do USB 1.1 cables work with USB 2.0 devices?

Ideally, yes. USB 2.0 architecture uses the same cables and connectors as USB 1.1 compliant products. Unfortunately, a recent independent testing firm indicated that only 3 out of 11 cables on the market in June of 2002 are certified as USB 1.1 compliant. You may run into the cables that cause problems connecting high-speed peripherals. To avoid negative user experience, most vendors include USB 2.0 compliant cables with their USB 2 PCI cards and peripherals.

Spec-wise there is not a damn difference between USB2.0 and USB1.1 cables. I never understood why ANYONE would pay $30-40 for a damn USB2.0 cable at a store. That just fucking blows my mind! Anyway, realistically, a lot of cheap USB1.1 cables didn't exactly meet specs even though they still worked at USB1.1 speeds. However, since USB2.0 is soo much faster then USB1.1 then sometimes those cheap cables just can't handle it. Bottom line, if you buy good quality cables to start with then it doesn't matter what it says on the package.

Generally they are the same but it would make sense that USB 2.0 would require a higher quality cable than USB 1.1 to work properly since there is more data going through the cable.

I don't recall reading about any changes in the specifications for the USB 2.0 cables.

I did some reading around the net and it seems that a lot of the el' cheapo cables arn't meeting the USB 1.1 specs to begin with so that's when people are having trouble with them on USB 2.0.

So if you have a high quality cable you'll be allright I think.
