Some PC dealer at my place(malaysia)wants to go to Taiwan and personally get ASUS 9800pro,9800xt and 9600. Lots of people are in his list. he needs customers paying first before going to
I have been in his waiting list for the 9800xt.
The price is RM1388 @ US$365. Is this cheap? Anyone have any experience buying from this type of deal? the cards will be ariving at march 15th. And he will post to all the customers(if they want it posted).
I have not bought anything through postage before. I'm afraid of the people handling the postage will damage the card. Any comments.

I also don't know how legit it is. All I know is like more than 30 people has already paid in advance, pople trust him. The cards should be here by march 15. He has contacts in Taiwan. I'm just curious. More like don't know.
 
I prefer reason with that. I have not invested my money. So its ok for me. I'm waiting for the next gen cards, but from the card launch till I see it in stores will take nearly a month.
 
Haven't you guys noticed that he's from Malaysia? Newegg doesn't deliver internationally.

To the poster: my gut feeling is that this does seem kind of fishy; I wouldn't trust someone who has maybe $9000 from a collection of people to leave the country and come back with a bunch of vid cards; he might just leave forever for all you know.

However, the price itself is very nice, and if you must have it and are willing to trust this guy, go for it.
 
What is with everyone always suggesting Newegg when it is obvious the parent is from Canada, Australia, Malaysia, or any other non-US country...

i've seen people get in serious trouble doing the same thing but for drugs, not video cards... but its still the same concept. unless you are dealing with a reputable company with guarantees, warrantees and such, dont take the risk of giving them anything up front. i mean, if you knew the dude that would be one thing... but this person sounds like a total stranger from what you've described. i wouldnt fork over a dime until the 9800xt was installed in my box and verified to work.

i understand that being where you are from you are not privy to some of the commercial conveniences we enjoy in america.... but this deal just sounds shady, i'm sure theres alternatives to get your hands on the card you want in the same rough price range. i understand your potential gains and your potential losses as well.... adn would have to reccomend staying out of any deal like this.

The site only has like 1% of all the shop prices listed. Some shops opted out of the list cause we still do not have the luxury of purchasing online. We can make a deal, but most of the time pay up front. Unless you have done lots of business, you can purchase online. Here, prices are cheap, except for some components, and the prices are not fixed. you can bargain for almost any components.

Thanks, I will wait for the next gen cards then. The person is not from a shop, most of the time he sells goods this way, where he sells direct to customers. Most are happy, maybe they have met him. As for me, I have no experience whatsoever.

find out how often the guy does this. i would suggest waiting and seeing if he does infact return with the video cards. and if he does do this frequently, get on the next round of cards.
 
If its too good to be true its too good to be true.

Anyone who could aquire those cards at that price would need a long standing relationship as well as capital. THis guy may be sincere but is being duped himself. You would need to commit to 100 units to get that price and be preapproved credit.

Companies like Asus are very strict on quality control and that includes distribution. I dont buy it.

Do the guy a favor before he gets hosed and has to fight off 30 pissed off people .
 
This type of deal by nature is grey market. That means a guy int Tiwan knows a guy who knows a guy. Your lucky to get 40 bucks off of retail becuase the device changes hands through unconventional distribution channels.

Transhiping is frowned upon by the big guys like Asus. I am sorry but to repeat myself the discount is just so deep that its inconsisitant with the nature of a transhiped product. Stay as far away from that deal as you can. Just my humble opinion
 
Thanks. Not going to anyway. I still like to purchase my goods by actually feeling it not by postage or through people.
