I Just received one of those little syringe-type things of Artic Silver 5, do I just apply circular amount and let the processor smooth the rest out? Also, How much of the tube should we use? the tube is about an inch and a half long, roughly......

That's a great guide, i'd suggest taking the time to read it if you haven't done so yet, it should answer any questions you have. Just remember, less is more. Don't cake the stuff onto the processor, you just want enough to put a thin layer across the heat spreader

Also, if your appyling this to an Intel. Make sure you remove the thermal tape from the stock heatsink if your using it. You do NOT want to use both the thremal tape and AS5. So check for tape on the heatsink and remove it. ;)

It's best not to use the tape and heatsink together. I didn't know this, and they're both applied. The only thing I could guess that would happen is that you wouldn't get the benefit of the AS5.

Also, remember to follow the instructions for Arctic silver 5 application. AS5 is thicker than previous AS compounds, and you just need to apply about half a grain of rice to the center of the core (if you have a P4 with heat spreader).

No need to apply to heatsink.

AS5 brought my temps at load down 10 C, I guess I screwed up with Antec silver.

And sorry for very minor thread jacking, but what's a BB? The instructions always say "apply about half a BB of the stuff onto the core"

I should reapply my thermal compound with some AS5 right now im using some AS3 thats from like august?

I change mine almost monthly. Temps start to rise a tad once it gets old. Nothing big, like maybe 2c, but still.

I guess I should probably replace the arctic alumina i'm using with some AS5
