This is my problem: prepare to read
K it is about 11 pm at night and i decide that i am goin to check if i am able to overclock my cpu, i go into bios and i select 5%, and save and exit, i get to windows and a blue screen says that it is dumping physical memory greets me:eek:SO it tells me to reboot i reboot, and go to bios and then i set the overclocking back to normal. so i get into windows and this error greets me:rolleyes: it says that the registry has been lost and has been recoverd or something like that i am scared as hell!, so i click ok and i notice that norton isn't in the system tray! so i clik the shortcut it gives me this site to go to to fix it it, so i get to the site follow the directions and it says to search for this file that i can't find so i say forget about that i am just going to uninstall nAV and then reinstall it, so i do that and it works fine till i reinstall it doesn't ask me for the serial# so i go on and it is the same problem, i go on and i decide to unistall NAV but i decide to not to reboot after the unistall, i stuppidly go to system restore and restore it to an earlier date NVA IS STILL ON THE COMP! so i try to clik it same problem it tells me to go to the site, so the site this time tells me to unistall then reinstall!!! i put in the cd to try and uninstall it but it says please reboot the system had detected that you have recently uninstalled or installed NAV!! so i decide k let me repair xp maybe that will help, it asks me for my key, i type it in and the F****** thing doesn't work! it is around 12-1am i decided ill do this tomm. Tommorrow arrives, i try it again after a hard day at school it works! woopie it goes smooth until a error comes up, something was unable to be found i click ok and it goes away then it opens up about 30 more times i click it 30 times, it goes away, it continues and works fine i get to the end and it goes into windows, takes a rather long time, so i get into windows and am greeted by the same error that it said in the repair i tried to get a screenshot but didn't work srry guys, so it works fine except for no SP1 and no NAV, it is still on the computer but not working and unable to uninstall with the same problem, so i consult with a local friend and i defintaly know i have to reformatt he tells me he will give me partion magic and it will give me a partion in windows without reformatting, i plan on putting all my stuff on that partion and then reformatting C and then transferring all of that stuff on d or that other partition to c. is this good or bad? is there any other solution?

You may well have rototilled your file system with your attempted OC. Delete the partition / reformat your drive / reinstall the world and I'll bet the problems go away.

....welcome to the fun and exciting world of hardware dabbling....:D I've trashed a file system or two, over the years....

It means that you may have attempted to run your computer faster than the combination of CPU, chipset, and hardware would allow, and you corrupted the file system on your hard drive. The operational word here is "may".

If this is what happened, you corrupted the data on your hard drive; possibly the file allocation table such that the computer can't read / write data to the drive without errors.

If this is in fact the issue, a full format and clean install will make it go away.

How to prevent it? It's a known risk of pushing your hardware.....not permanant, but damn annoying. Yes, I've done it more than once.....

BlindedByScience is giving you your answer. If you want you can try using a boot disk in order to give you access to your important data files, and perhaps save them either to floppy or to another partition.

With respect to your question on Partition Magic, the answer is that it will create new partitions on an existing hard drive, among other things. Although is unlikely to help you at this point, I would certainly recommend using one partition for your OS, and one partition for your data. This way, if you screw up your C drive by overclocking, you are still likely to have all data on your D drive still intact.

You can read about partitioning here: http://partition.radified.com/

Whenever you decide that you want to start playing with overclocking, I would also recommend creating an image of your C drive.

You can read about performing backups using Norton Ghost here: http://ghost.radified.com/

Good luck!

k partition master doesn't work on my computer it says an error 100 occurs so i bought another hdd and im gonna transfer all the data onto that then reformatt the old hdd and create 2 partitions this time:confused:

Yep, trashing your hard disk is one of the more common things to happen on a bad o/c.

Done it a few times myself. Nowadays...I just get a USB external drive for all of my important stuff. Someday when I am rich i might get a NAS unit, but for now a USB drive will work fine.
