[Urgent] Computer not booting

My girlfriends HP computer is not booting for some reason. It just hangs at the HP screen that shows up before windows starts. Do you know what could be wrong with it and what I have to do to fix it? She really needs help because all of her school work is on that computer...:(
 
Have you tried booting into safe mode?
and does every device still show up in bios?
how long have you let windows hang there?

sometimes even though there is a problem windows will load, it just might take an hour, which if you need to get something off that might work.

First thing I would do is get into safe mode and clear out the startup list and see if that helps. might be some bad software trying to load.
 
Was she installing/uninstalling any programs?? What was she doing on the computer before this happened?? What are the system specs??
