UPS with switchable / no alert tones?

Perhaps an odd request... (well, at least odd enough that I didn't see anything searching the forum...) but does anyone know of any UPS models that have either no alert, or an alert that can be switched completely off? When the entire block suddenly goes dark, I don't really need a damned beep to let me know the power has gone out.

Now, I'm not talking about a unit that you can push a button and mute it after it starts beeping. I want silence. I have a couple of units in furniture that makes it very much a pain to get to shut off the alert. Especially if the power goes out while I'm trying to sleep. Laying in bed, after about ten minutes of listening to that beeping I tend to get a bit... stabby...

I'd imagine if there was ever a damaging surge, APC, Belkin, and the like would get a bit upset with me for tearing the unit apart, hunting down the piezo speaker, and attacking it with a hot iron (which I've done) but I'd like to avoid this if possible.

Yea I'm not sure if there is one out there...but a more...surgical application of the going crazy part that you said at the end could be a solution.

Just open it up very carefully (AFTER LEAVING IT UNPLUGGED FOR SEVERAL DAYS AFTER IT HAS BEEN TOTALLY DISCHARGED- want to try to limit you getting shocked on a cap :p ) and search down the speaker / buzzer and remove it.

Also make sure you work with one hand off the UPS at all times (common procedure used in high voltage device work to prevent any possible shocks to the heart).

Mmn... I was afraid that may be the answer.

I've actually only gone crazy on one of my UPSs. (Some little generic power-strip looking model.) Just the way it was assembled it was neigh-impossible to get the board out without more effort than I was willing to spend. So that little speaker got stabbed and poked until it died from it. (Muahahhahahaa! )

An older Tripplite was much more cooperative, and had the speaker just cleanly de-soldered from the board. (Then I hit it with a hammer.)

Looks like I'll be kissing an Equipment Protection Policy goodbye. :(
(Though I guess that isn't a big deal. My homeowner's insurance should cover any damages anyway...)

Yes there are some that allow you to turn off the warnimg.

Usually they have a dip switch on the back. I think I have a trip-lite that functions that way.

We use Cyber??? UPSs now and we don't care about the noise.

Some have a software setting for no audible alerts. Check the configuration. If the UPS is not connected to a computer, you might be able to shut it off by plugging the UPS's USB/LAN/Whatever connection into the computer, setting it and then unplugging the USB/LAN/...

I'll have to send a few emails out to the companies to double-check before buying, but one that could be shut off using the software would work just fine.

Thank you all for your time. I'll go start bugging the manufacturers now. ;)

I know this one has a software setting to disable audible alerts from personal experience, and so do the rest of their 'upright' and higher end units.
