UPS with curious behaviour?

I'm new to the use of UPS's so this may be normal. What happens is I will be playing a game when suddenly I'm kicked out to what I presume is standby mode. The UPS beeps once when this happens and I can continue doing what I was by maximizing the game. It did this once when I actually saw the power flicker and another time when the I didn't see anything else dim. I can manually unplug the power to the UPS and the PC continues on without anything happening including the standby thing which is what confuses me. I had thought I was set up to continue without interuptions which the unplugging demonstrates but the other action is the one I dont understand. Anyone with any ideas or explanations?

Ooh I hope not...I have the APC BR-1500 with the optional battery pack addon.

Actually I did then removed it because I figured windows could handle it...ya reckon the windows version is flaky?

Appears it might be caused by having the interface cable attached and not running the APC software, seems like a bug they should fix considering windows can use the interface to monitor the battery charge for its built in software. This could of course be a windows or APC problem.
