Do you guys turn off your UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply)?

I usually turn my computer off at night and when it is off, I usually power down the UPS.

I am wondering if all that on / off is degrading the UPS? I assume it does not use much if any electricity in standby mode, but correct me if I am wrong. It does tend to get warm.

For the record I have an OPTI-UPS a 800 series. I have replaced the batteries once, and I have to do so again. Not too bad since I am replacing the batteries every three years.

What are your thoughts?

No, I never turn mine off unless im going on vacation. It doesnt lessen the life, the lead-acid batteries are designed to be topped off, not constantly drained then fully charged again as it does when you leave it off over time.

i was wondering the same thing. Out of all the psu related information out there on this forum, there isn't any on ups's. It sure is needed though!

A few UPS questions get asked... and get answered.

Me? I actually put my UPS on a little red Radio Flyer whenever I'm not using my computer. Together, we take a walk to Ruby Teusdays where it sits on the bar stool next to me drinking Jameson on the rocks.

Bump for a real answer!

Ask a real question. What do you want to know specifically?

Liver asked a question and wee answered it.

If you have a question, perhaps you could start a thread asking the question and then we can answer it. That's generally how it works, unless your question is already posted. Then you just use "search" and some keywords and then read the results. ;)

For a general definition of terms, I often use this: http://www.americanbatterycompany.com/battery-glossary.php

Although it doesn't define different UPS type, Ice Czar gave some good definitions and edited a diagram I had and posted it here: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1023833

Could you check my thread out and give me a couple brands or models on a ups that I might buy. They convenced me to get the OCZ powerstream 520. How-ever each of the statements on the ups part of the question, the posters didn't like the other posters' recommendations. http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1037750

I have done a couple searchs but none that seemed to give me an idea on what ups I should buy. I guess I was expecting more of an answer to the guys question. I apoligize for being an ass!

I don't know much about the UPS or the way is internally works. However I have read that you should look for one with a true sine wave pattern. May not be very much benefit with computer equipment, but some people believe it offers a much cleaner signal for video and audio use.

Anyone verify?

Oh, I'm not turning my UPS off anymore!
